Phi Delta Theta fraternity members at Emporia State University are encouraged by the community response to the third annual Love Like Lou ALS Benefit Gala on Saturday.
On that list: ESU freshman and event chair Gavin Yakel (YAY-kul).
Fraternity members welcomed residents to the Bowyer Building for an evening of music, courtesy of the Phi Delt Jazz Band, as well as a catered meal by Gourmet-to-Go, a silent auction and a presentation from ALS Warrior Kelli Johnsen. Over $4,600 was raised. Proceeds benefit the Live Like Lou Foundation, which supports research and awareness in honor of New York Yankees first baseman Lou Gehrig, who ultimately died from the disease.
The is the second major fundraiser locally fighting against ALS, joining the longstanding Walk to Defeat ALS that benefits the ALS Association Keith Worthington Chapter in the fall. Phi Delts have had a strong presence with that event through the years as well.
