People turned out in droves to enjoy the Emporia Lions Club’s annual biscuits and gravy fundraising breakfast Saturday.
As usual, a line of hungry people was outside the Emporia Senior Center before the event started. Club President Mike Petitjean was glad to see the turnout and the support of students.
Also turning out in droves: members of Emporia State University sports teams and the nursing department, serving as volunteers in various roles.
The community meal is the Lions Club’s biggest fundraiser of the year, but club members are also engaged in efforts to end blindness and other sight issues, collecting previously-used eyeglasses, readers and sunglasses throughout the year. The Lions Club’s Cleve Cook Fund also provides grants for a range of community improvement projects every year.
