A court hearing in July will determine whether Phillip Lieurance will accept a plea deal in Colorado for allegedly murdering two Emporia women or will go to trial.
Lieurance, of Emporia, waived his preliminary hearing in Kiowa County Court on Monday. Special prosecutors handling the case then presented an agreement offering Lieurance a chance to plead guilty to two counts of first-degree murder. The agreement also includes sentences of eight to 25 years in Colorado prison on each count to be served following his remaining time in Kansas for three counts of aggravated battery. He was sentenced in January 2024 to 34 months in prison.
Lieurance faces single counts of first-degree murder and second-degree murder, reflecting the alleged homicides of Amy Ford and Linda Estrada, respectively. He also faces two counts of tampering with a body as part of the alleged killings Sept. 10, 2023.
The next hearing in the Lieurance case is July 7.
