Over 900 Evergy customers are back online after high winds led to a widespread outage across most of Emporia Tuesday evening.
The outage was first reported just befoe 6 pm and stretched from Commercial Street to the western end of Emporia. According to Evergy management, high winds caused a pair of conductors to “slap together” causing the outage.
Power was restored before 7 pm.

Evergy crews are in the process of restoring power to over 900 Evergy customers Tuesday night.
The outage was reported just before 6 pm and stretches from commercial street to the western edge of Emporia. Further details, including a cause of the outage are currently pending.
In addition to businesses and residences the outage is also affecting traffic signals at various intersections. Drivers are asked to be vigilant and approach all intersections with caution until the situation is resolved.
