For months, Emporia Spanish Speakers founder and CEO LeLan Dains has mentioned the need for the organization to have a brick-and-mortar space. That has now happened.
On KVOE’s Talk of Emporia on Tuesday, Dains said the surge of interest from residents displaced by the Tyson and other business closures since early December both highlighted the need for an official address and paved the way for that to happen.
In fact, Dains says the work to help Tyson workers and the increased work alongside KansasWORKS sped up the process to find a new home for Emporia Spanish Speakers.
Dains also says the new office space inside the Humanitarian Center is just one of the space needs Emporia Spanish Speakers has.
Dains wants to add a community shared space for events, as well as a residential space for short-term housing needs.
Emporia Spanish Speakers has several public events ahead this month, including a Language Exchange at 6 pm March 13 at the Flint Hills Technical College Adult Education Center and its latest Vamos a Explorar at 10 am March 15 at the David Traylor Zoo.
