Three area teams clinched tickets to their respective classification’s state tournaments on Friday night.
In Class 1A-Division II in McPherson, the Lebo girls cruised to a 52-22 victory over Central Christian for their fourth consecutive state berth. Lebo started the game on a 6-0 run and never looked back leading 14-9 after the first quarter and 29-12 at halftime. Lebo outscored the Cougars 23-10 in the second half with a majority of the fourth quarter being contested with a running clock. Saige Hadley led Lebo with 20 points while Allison Konrade added 16. Lebo coach Patrick Gardner said his team took care of business.
Audio PlayerLebo enters the state tournament with a 20-2 record. Prior to Lebo’s game, Hartford took on South Haven. South Haven held off the Jaguars for a 32-31 victory. The Cardinals led 4-0 after the first quarter and 16-5 at halftime. Hartford used a 15-6 third quarter to cut the deficit to 22-20 heading into the fourth. Hartford cut the deficit to one, 22-21 before South Haven scored eight straight to lead 30-21. Hartford scored the game’s next 10 points to take a 31-30 lead but South Haven got the game-winning basket with 28 seconds to go. Keilee Finnerty and Trinity Windle each had 10 to lead the way for the Jaguars. Hartford coach Ryan Thomas said he was proud of how his team crawled back into the game after trailing by as many as 11.

In Class 1A-Division I at Canton-Galva, Madison could not overcome a fast start by Little River as they fell 71-57 to conclude their season at 14-8. Little River raced out to a 23-9 lead at the end of the first quarter, a lead that would grow to as large as 28 in the second quarter. Little River, undefeated on the season, had been in this scenario before but a switch to man-to-man defense allowed Madison to crawl themselves back into the contest the rest of the way, cutting the lead to 21 at the half 44-23. Madison would continue to battle back cutting the deficit to 18 to start the fourth. Head Coach Brett Dannels was proud of his team’s resilience.
Madison was led in scoring by Jalynn Weakley with 25.
