More than 30 teams of all ages signed up to take part in the second annual Adam Tebben 3-on-3 Basketball tournament Saturday inside of the Emporia State Rec Center.
The participation was a nearly 10-team increase from the inaugural event from last year and organizer Brandon Wolter attributed the increase to both word of mouth and the quality of the event.
Tebben, an Emporia native, died in January of 2024 following a medical helicopter crash near Weatherford, Oklahoma. The basketball tournament was then established to support both Tebben’s memory and a scholarship fund set up in his honor at Emporia State University.
Wolter, Tebben’s brother-in-law, says Tebben would have been amazed by the work his memory is continuing to do even after his passing. Noting Tebben’s care and compassion for others, Wolter says both last year and this year so many individuals have approached him to talk about how Tebben impacted their life or the lives of those close to them.
While Tebben was well known throughout the community, Wolter says there are those who never knew and so he is glad to have the event in place as a way to keep Tebben’s memory alive and well for future generations.
All proceeds will benefit the Adam Tebben Scholarship fund with proceed totals currently pending.
