Three more area teams clinched tickets to state on Saturday in sub-state championships games.
In Class 1A-Division I, the Olpe boys advanced to their fifth straight state tournament defeating Central Burden 64-33. The Eagles held a slim lead of four, 14-10, at the end of the first quarter. The lead would build to eight at the half, 34-26. Ethan Boucher scored 18 points in the first half and was a point of emphasis in the half time locker room for Olpe. Olpe head coach Chris Schmidt said the Eagles had to contain Boucher in order to advance.
Olpe’s defensive pressure in the second half held Central Burden to only seven total points. Boucher led all scorers with 20, with Olpe being led by Cade Whitmore with 19.
In Class 1A-Division II, the Lebo boys clinched a third trip to state with a 47-36 victory over Hartford at Central Christian College in McPherson. Lebo led 20-18 at halftime before the Wolves outscored the Jaguars 27-18 in the second half. Zach Oswald led Lebo with 29 points. Landen Schultz led Hartford with 10 points.
In Class 2A, the Chase County girls defeated Lyndon, 50-37. Lyndon led 16-8 after one and 24-18 at halftime. Chase County made adjustments at the half and outscored the Tigers 32-13 in the second half.
In Class 1A Division I in Centralia, Clifton-Clyde ended the Burlingame boys’ season with a 54-50 victory.
State brackets will be released by KSHSAA on Sunday morning. Once brackets have been released, KVOE will finalize its plans for area teams heading to state.
