The kickoff event isn’t for close to a month, but Flint Hills Technical College is well into a fundraising campaign like no other in its history.
The college is now into its $17 million Advancing Tomorrow campaign — its largest ever — to build a 27,000-square-foot Advanced Industry Education Center after a Board of Trustees meeting Monday. As part of KVOE’s monthly Tech Talk interview Tuesday, President Caron Daugherty says the new facility will occupy the green space on the west side of the main campus at 18th and Graphic Arts Road — space occupied at times the last few years by a large event tent. Daugherty also says the space is completely student-centered, meaning some plan adjustments over the last 18 months.
Vice President for Advancement Mike Crouch says fundraising is full-speed ahead.
Crouch also says this will help to alleviate a worker shortage well underway across the state.
Daugherty says construction could overlap fundraising.
The official kickoff is at 10 am April 3. RSVPs are needed by March 31. People wanting to attend can call Executive Assistant Rachel Thurman at 620-341-1305.
Monday’s announcement also comes as the college continues working towards its annual Gala Benefit and Auction at White Auditorium on April 25, with preliminary activities including the Wrangler on the Rocks silent auction currently online through Friday. More information about the Advancing Tomorrow campaign, Wrangler on the Rocks and the Gala Benefit are all online at fhtc.edu.
