Emporia State University has a brand-new event to highlight Women’s History Month.
Wednesday marks the debut of the “She Sings: Women in Music Festival.” ESU Director of Choral Activities Dr Josh Donaldson says this gives students a chance to interact and network with women known nationally and internationally for their work.
The conference goes from 8 am to 5 pm at ESU’s Beach Music Hall, with performances, “interest sessions” and workshops. Presenters will be composer Melissa Dunphy, Grammy Award-nominated educator Jasmine Fripp, composer and flutist Rashi Grewal, soprano Madison King, composer and clarinetist Theresa Martin and composer and singer Moira (MOO-ruh) Smiley.
Following the conference is a special concert at the Emporia Granada Theatre, featuring Smiley, King, ESU choirs and Weda Skirts. The concert begins at 7 pm, with doors opening at 6:30 pm.
The full festival, including the concert, is $75 a person, with discounts for ESU students, ESU employees, and students from high schools or other colleges. The concert-only ticket is $25 — and is free for ESU students and employees.
