The Emporia Public Schools Board of Education has its first candidate for this year’s election cycle.
Jami Reever has announced her run for re-election. She is seeking her second term in office.
After moving to Emporia in 2009 to serve as the executive director of the United Way of the Flint Hills, she has been director of the nonprofit public policy organization Kansas Appleseed since 2019. Her hsuband, Kim Simons, is a professor at Emporia State University and the couple has two college-aged children.
Reever’s seat is one of three on the USD 253 board that’s up for election. Incumbents Lillian Lingenfelter and Jennifer Thomas have not yet announced their plans.
The filing deadline is at noon June 2 for positions like school board, mayor, City Council and City Commission. The primary election is Aug. 5. The general election is Nov. 4.
