One area team clinched a ticket to the semifinals while two others saw their season end on day one of state basketball tournaments on Wednesday.
At the Class 1A-Division II State Tournament in Colby, the Lebo girls advanced with a 44-24 victory over Hodgeman County. Lebo led 10-6 after one and 24-12 at halftime. The Wolves led by as many as 24 in the game. Allison Konrade led three Lady Wolves in double figures with 14 points. Saige Hadley added 12 and Siara Crouch tallied 10. Lebo coach Patrick Gardner said it was a big win to get.
Lebo is now 21-2 and will play either Hanover or Wallace County at 6 p.m. Friday in the semifinals in Colby. The Mel’s Tire Pregame Show begins at 5:50 p.m. and is tentatively scheduled to air on Mix 104.9.
At the Class 2A State Tournament in Manhattan, the Chase County boys were defeated by Sterling, 97-48. The Black Bears led from start to finish and led by as many as 50 in the game after leading 30-14 at the end of one and 58-23 at halftime. Sterling shot 69% from the field in the game and hit 13 3-pointers. Carson Schroer led Chase County with 13 points. Wyatt Griffin added 12 and Hudson Doty tallied 10 off the bench. Chase County ends its season with a 14-10 record.
At the Class 3A State Tournament in Hutchinson, the Osage City girls were upset by Colby, 57-31. Colby led 8-5 after one and 16-14 at the half. Colby’s 18-4 third quarter proved to be a difference maker. Kaelyn Boss led Osage City with 16 points. Osage City’s season ends with a 22-2 record.
Three games to be featured on the KVOE Network of Stations on Thursday. The Olpe boys play Little River at 2 p.m. on Country 101.7. The Lebo boys play Dighton at 8 p.m. on Mix 104.9 and the Chase County girls play Doniphan West at 8 p.m. on Country 101.7.
