Emporia State University’s Memorial Union is the site of the 2025 Kansas State Chess Championships this weekend.
This will include participation from K-12 students across Kansas, with almost 450 students registered in the varying grade categories.
The format is called a six-round Swiss system, similar to a round-robin tournament but contestants don’t play against all the other competitors in their bracket. Players will have 30 minutes to finish their games and will have to wait five seconds after their moves before starting the clock for their opponents’ moves.
The opening round of matches will begin at 9:30 am.
