Severe weather season is officially here, and several storm spotter sessions through the National Weather Service are coming to area counties over the next week-plus.
First up is the Coffey County spotter training session, which will be at 7 pm Thursday at the Burlington 4-H Building. Lyon County’s training session will be at 7 pm March 25 at the Emporia State Memorial Union Preston Family Room, followed by Morris County’s session at 7 pm March 26 at the Morris County Courthouse in Council Grove. Chase County’s training session is at 6:30 pm March 27 at the Swope Park Community Center in Cottonwood Falls.
Sessions next month include April 2 at the Lyndon Community Building and April 8 at Mission Valley School.
Spotter training sessions provide basic lessons about storm structure, storm features, severe weather safety in several different settings and reporting procedures.
KVOE will have live on-air and online updates whenever severe weather threatens or is underway areawide, with social media alerts through Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. As has been the case for years, our coverage will be enhanced with information from the volunteer KVOE Storm Team spotter network.
