The Emporia State tennis teams wrapped up their Florida trip with dual defeats on Wednesday. The #23 Hornets fell to #22 Florida Southern 4-1. ESU picked up a doubles match victory but the Mocs took the doubles point after ESU lost a tiebreaker at #1 doubles. Diego Calvo got the only point for ESU with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at #4 singles. ESU drops to 8-3 on the year.
The Lady Hornets fell to Texas A&M Kingsville 5-2. ESU picked up a win at #3 doubles from Paige Stranghoner and Sheriden Wichman but couldn’t get the doubles point. Perla Conde maintained her winning streak with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at #3 singles to keep ESU (5-5) in the match but the Javelinas clinched the dual in the next match that completed. Wichman picked up a three-set victory winning her third set super tiebreak 13-11.
Both teams open up league play facing Newman next week with the Lady Hornets hosting the Jets in MIAA play Tuesday while the men will take on the Navy & Red on Saturday, March 29 in MIAA/GAC action.
