Regardless of the position she held, Kathleen Inwood’s legacy was all about children.
Inwood worked as a classroom teacher at Village Elementary for over 30 years. Then, she became the first director of the SOS Child Advocacy Center. SOS Executive Director Mickey Edwards worked with Inwood as Inwood got started at SOS.
SOS dedicated its Child Advocacy Center family room in Inwood’s memory Thursday. Current center director Ginny Samples says Inwood’s initial work in Lyon County has now expanded to Chase, Coffey and Morris counties.
Kathleen Inwood’s widower, Steve, saw the effort his wife put into her work. He was glad to see others recognized what she did and why she did it.
While leading the CAC, Inwood developed programs and services for children while fostering relationships at the local, area and state levels. Much of the CAC’s work, especially in Lyon and Coffey counties, revolves around Multidisciplinary Teams, which bring law enforcement and child service agencies together to investigate child abuse cases while giving victims and their families comfort and support through the process.
Inwood passed away in January. She was 78.
