Following extensive work on toll plazas up and down the highway, including demolition activities at Emporia, Cassoday and Admire gates, there is still a bit of work to do at the Emporia tollbooth. And Kansas Turnpike Authority Engineer Glen Scott, a guest on KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Thursday, says that work will begin soon.
Scott also says all demolition activities at Admire and Cassoday are done.
There are other notable projects ahead. Resurfacing will begin soon from just southwest of the Matfield Green service exit to the Flint Hills cattle pens exit, a distance of over 15 miles. This is set to use what’s called ultra-thin bonded asphalt and will include interchanges, including sealing for the Matfield Green area, as well as paving the Cassoday maintenance yard. Work is set to end in November after starting around Memorial Day. Pearson Construction of Wichita won the project with a nearly $5 million bid.
Scott also says a patching project will take place this upcoming fall, involving an area from the Emporia service exit to the Admire gate.
With new license plates becoming more commonplace, Scott encourages drivers to update their KTAG information at driveks.com with the new tag numbers. Scott also reminds drivers not to click on any texts indicating they have outstanding account balances because those are part of a nationwide scam.
