The No. 5 seed Kansas State women’s basketball team blasted No. 12 seed Fairfield 85-41 in the first round of the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament on Friday. The ‘Cats jumped in front with a 21-9 first quarter and held a 12-point lead at the break. Using a 16-0 run in the third, the Wildcats blew the game open by outscoring the Stags in the quarter 29-6. KSU shot 53% from the field while Fairfield managed just 29% shooting. Center Ayoka Lee returned with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds. Fellow All-American Serena Sundell led the Wildcats with 18 points and 9 assists. KSU takes on No. 4 seed Kentucky on Sunday. Tip-off will be announced at a later date.
