The #19/No. 5 seed Kansas State women’s basketball team is in the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2002 after defeating #13/No. 4 seed Kentucky 80-79 in the second round of the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament at Memorial Coliseum in Lexington, Ky. on Sunday. UK led by five at the end of the first, but KSU took a two-point lead into the half. The rest of the game was tight but Temira Poindexter was too much for UK leading all scorers with 24 points. Serena Sundell added 19 points with 14 assists. The Wildcats (28-7) return to action Saturday in the Spokane 4 regional to take on either No. 1 seed USC or No. 9 seed Mississippi State. the Trojans and Bulldogs play at 10:00 p.m. on Monday.
