The Emporia State women’s tennis team defeated Newman for the first time since 2017 with a 4-3 victory over the Jets on Tuesday at the Kossover Family Tennis Complex. The win ended a three-dual losing streak for the Lady Hornets (6-5, 1-0 MIAA). ESU took the doubles point behind two tiebreaks to sweep the three doubles matches. ESU won the first match quickly as Anastasia Pesic set the tone at #5 singles. The Jets scored at #4 singles before Lilie Bizouerne put ESU on the brink of winning with a straight-sets win at #3 singles. Perla Conde at #2 singles won her fifth-straight match in a three-set comeback by winning 14 of the match’s last 18 games after falling in a 4-0 hole early in the first set. She said she’s playing extremely confidently.
