With the overall timetable getting delayed, an information meeting on Emporia’s Southeast Transmission Waterline Project has been canceled.
Residents had been advised of a meeting Wednesday evening at White Auditorium. On KVOE’s Morning Show earlier this month, City Engineer Jim Ubert had mentioned plans to begin construction at any time between next month and June — before a City Commission meeting that revealed cost projections had spiked around $6 million over original forecasts.
The project will build out over five miles of new waterline from 12th and Garfield to South and Carter. It’s the third stage of a three-phase project to improve water service across town, with work from 12th and Peyton to South and Carter already complete and the 24th and Prairie process possibly ending by late spring or early summer.
