The Emporia Community Foundation is celebrating 30 years of impacting the community on Thursday.
The Emporia Granada Theatre will be the site of the non-profit’s 30th year anniversary at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $19.95 per person, which includes dinner, drinks, and a picture of an onsite DeLorean to reflect a “Back to the Future” atmosphere.
The foundation was established in 1995 by Elvin Perkins, who came up with a philosophy to help improve the community meaningfully. Perkins brought together five other community members, Barbara White Walker, Bobbie Agler, George Osborne, Steve Davis, and Carl Didde, and started brainstorming on pooling resources to create the non-profit organization.
Executive Director Linda Kehres-Schmidt says the first gift given in 1995 was a special one to kickstart the foundation.

As for the immediate future for the Emporia Community Foundation, Kehres-Schmidt says they want to increase legacy giving and find a way that’s meaningful for the next generation of leaders to understand, to get involved and support the causes that have a need.
