The state’s Cold Weather Rule comes to an end next week.
The Cold Weather Rule will officially end Monday. It prevents utility companies from shutting off services to customers if the temperature goes below 35 degrees or is forecasted to be in the low-to-mid 30’s for at least a 24-hour period. However, customers need to set up payment arrangements and maintain those agreements to avoid potential shutoffs.
Also ending Monday is the sign-up period for the state’s Low Income Energy Assistance Program, also called LIEAP. This program helps eligible homes pay some of their monthly bills through a one-time-per-year benefit. Money provided can offset electricity, natural gas or propane bills.
