Emporia Fire handled a small structure fire Wednesday evening.
Fire crews were dispatched to 109 Merchant just before 8:30 pm. Battalion Chief Ryan Conley says the unnamed resident was burning leaves in his yard, but the leaves were also against the house and the burn caught the siding on fire. The fire also got through the siding into the stove plate and nearby wood before it was put out.
No injuries were reported. Early estimates indicate around $2,000 in damage.
