The Emporia High track and field teams opened their seasons with a pair of third place finishes at the Topeka West Invitational on Friday.
On the girls side, Paige Newland won the long and triple jumps. Newland finished with a mark of 18-5 in the long jump and 38-10.25 in the triple jump. The girls 4x800m relay team of Emma Beatty, Bailee Van Sickle, Amelia Lowery and Ivanna Orduno finished third (10:56.62). Elise Eckert finished third in the 100m hurdles (18.29) while finishing second in the 300m hurdles (54.97). The 4x100m relay team of Reagan Thompson, Harley Smith, Jayde Aguirre and Newland finished third (52.55). Smith finished third in the 400m (1:04). Beatty finished third in the 800m (2:33.10). Larkyn Wagner finished third in the discus (85-9).
On the boys side, RJ Tabares won the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.02 while also winning the 300m hurdles in 41.37. Chance Duncan won the discus throw with a throw of 158-9 and also won the javelin throw with a mark of 171-5. Brody Duncan finished third in the 100m (11.21) and took second in the long jump (21-9). Cohen Bloomquist finished third in the pole vault with a clearance of 9-0. Garrett LeBlanc finished third in the triple jump (42-6).
Emporia High will be in action next Saturday in the ESU High School Relays at Welch Stadium.
