The Emporia High baseball and softball teams picked up sweeps in Wichita against Wichita South on Friday.
The Spartans needed just six innings for their sweep, winning the opener, 21-0 and 15-0 in the nightcap. In game one, a 15-run first inning set the tone for the Spartans. Chase Harrington led the way at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored. Andrew Ruxton picked up the win, allowing one hit and two strikeouts in two innings. In game two, a five-run first set the tone, followed by a nine-run third to complete the sweep. Luke Marshall went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and three RBIs. Harrington got the win on the mound, recording three strikeouts in two innings. EHS (3-1) hosts Wichita North in a single game on Thursday at Soden’s Grove.
The Lady Spartans picked up their first wins of the season, 13-2, and 17-0. In game one, the Lady Spartans never trailed despite Wichita South making it 6-2 through four. EHS added four in the fifth and three in the sixth. Alivia Barrett got the win in the circle allowing two runs on three hits and 12 strikeouts while also going 3-for-5 at the plate with two RBIs. Mackayleigh Arrington drove in four. In game two, a 9-run first inning set the tone en route to the sweep. Barrett recorded eight strikeouts in the circle in four innings while Ryane Howe went 3-for-3 at the plate with four RBIs. EHS (2-2) travels to Hayden on Tuesday.
