The Emporia State baseball team was outhit 17-10 on the way to a 10-7 loss in game one of a three-game set against Missouri Southern in Joplin, Mo. on Friday. ESU led twice including 3-1 in the third after T. J. Rocker-bomber and Noah Steele singles delivered a pair of runs. MoSo scored three in the fourth to retake the lead, but a two-run single by Cooper Schwindt put the Hornets back on top in the fifth. The Lions tacked on three runs in the fifth but the Hornets plated two more in the sixth to tie the game. The Hornet bullpen couldn’t hold though as the Lions scored the last three runs of the game. Schwindt drove in two runs for ESU as the bullpen struggled. Eli Hernandez (0-2) allowed four runs in 3.0 innings to take the loss. The Hornets (14-12, 7-8 MIAA) try to hold off the Lions in game two on Saturday. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
