Jobless rates continue to climb in Emporia and Lyon County, but they are now falling slightly in some neighboring counties.
Locally, Emporia’s jobless rate climbed from 4.2 percent in January to 4.6 percent last month, while Lyon County went from 4 percent to 4.4 percent.
Areawide, Coffey County had the biggest jump and now has the highest unemployment rate at 5.7 percent. Chase County had a more modest increase to 43.2 percent. All other neighboring counties had slight declines, with Morris County holding the lowest area jobless rate at 3.6 percent.
The Kansas Department of Labor says unemployment is at 3.8 percent across Kansas, the same number as for January.
