The Kansas State women’s basketball team fell to No. 1 seed Southern California 67-61 in the Sweet 16 on Saturday. USC led by seven after the first 10 minutes, but K-State scored the first 10 points of the second quarter to build a 19-16 lead. The Trojans used a layup to beat the buzzer and the Cats went into the half up two. The Wildcats led by five early in the second half, but the Trojans went on a 12-0 run to lead by seven with 2:22 to go in the third. The final period was tight in the fourth as the ‘Cats closed within one with just over three minutes to go, but the Trojans made seven free throws in the final two minutes to hold off KSU. Serena Sundell played all 40 minutes for K-State and scored 22 points with six assists and six rebounds with no turnovers. Ayoka Lee had 12 points and 10 rebounds. The Wildcat season ends at 28-8.
