The Office of Kansas State Fire Marshal has concluded its investigation into a destructive house fire on Olpe’s west side from late last year.
Fire Marshal Public Information Manager Lance Feyh says the cause of the fire at 730 Kansas Highway 99 is officially undetermined, although the case may be reopened if new evidence is unveiled.
Fire developed Nov. 30 and quickly engulfed the over 3,000-square-foot home, originally the residence of late Olpe Chicken House owners Leonard and Theresa Coble and most recently owned by Suzan Stroup-Reed. The fire left some walls standing, but demolition work on the remaining structure began last week.
Several fire departments responded to the scene, including Olpe, Hartford-Neosho Rapids, Emporia and Lyon County Rural. Lyon County deputies also helped with the incident scene.
