The Emporia State baseball team surrendered an unearned run in the 10th inning to fall 5-4 at Missouri Western on Tuesday. The Griffons scored the first run in the third before ESU took the lead on a two-run single by Cooper Schwindt. Western struck back with a pair of runs in the fourth before stealing home to extend the lead in the sixth, but Noah Steele doubled home two in the seventh and Schwindt drove in another run on a sacrifice fly to tie the game in the seventh. After stranding a runner on second in the 10th, the Hornets gave up two bases on an error before Western singled it in for the win. Ryan Sauter (1-1) took a hard luck loss giving up just the 10th-inning unearned run while scattering three hits. With the win, the Griffons level the three-game midweek series at a game apiece. The Hornets (16-13, 9-9 MIAA) wrap up an eight-game road swing beginning Friday at #1 Central Missouri.
