The Emporia State men’s track & field team will start the season in the Top 25. The initial outdoor rankings from the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association places the Hornets #13 in the country. Reigning and defending MIAA and National Indoor & Outdoor Track & Field champion Pittsburg State is atop the poll followed by West Texas A&M, Grand Valley State, Harding, & Fresno Pacific. Missouri Southern is #10 while Washburn is #12. The Hornet javelin group is ranked second in the country in event squad rankings while sprinter Ty Anderson has the third-fastest 100m dash time in the country this year. The Hornets also have Top 25 event rankings in the 400m dash, pole vault, and high jump. The Emporia State men’s and women’s track & field teams return to Welch Stadium in Emporia for the Midwest Classic beginning Friday at 11:00 a.m.
