Sophomore disc golfer Atlanta Krueger is Emporia State’s first individual national champion after claiming the women’s title at the Collegiate Disc Golf National Championships in Rock Hill, S. C. on Wednesday. Krueger was in second at -1 following the first round and trailed by two shots going into a nine-hole final round of singles. Krueger trailed by as many as four before making a move to birdie three of four holes and move into a tie going into the final hole. Krueger saved par to finish -5 while her opponent bogeyed to give her the title. Her teammate Madeline Joiner also made the finals and finished fifth at +3. Maya Ringgold missed the cut and finished in 20th at +8. Krueger and Joiner are in first in the team competition at even par and one shot in front of Liberty.
Meanwhile Emporia-native Cade Kohlmeier is tied for third in the men’s DI competition at -4 and is five shots back of the lead heading into the final round. Micah Tatro finished in a tie for 23rd at -1 and missed the cut for the final round by one shot. As a team, the Hornets are in second place behind defending national champion UNC-Charlotte by two strokes heading into Thursday. In the men’s DII field, Grant Yoder is tied for 12th at +2 while Isaiah Esquivel is at +3 tied for 17th.
