Two Emporia High teams were in action on Wednesday.
The Emporia High softball team was swept by Hayden, 5-2 and 11-3. In game one, Emporia High held a 1-0 lead before Hayden scored four in the fifth and never looked back. Marley Sewell and Bailey Schlesener each went 2-for-3 at the plate. Alivia Barrett allowed five runs and six hits and had two strikeouts in six innings. In game two, Hayden led 3-0 early before EHS scored two in the sixth before the Wildcats made it 4-2 through two innings. The Lady Spartans cut the deficit to one in the fourth, but Hayden scored six runs en route to the sweep. Molly Williams went 1-for-4 at the plate with a double and an RBI. Barrett allowed 11 runs on four hits in six innings. Emporia High (2-4, 0-2 Centennial) hosts Highland Park for its home opener at 4 p.m. Thursday at Peter Pan Park.
The Emporia High girls soccer team suffered its first defeat against Hutchinson, 3-0, in the Titan Classic in Wichita. The Salthawks scored all three of their goals in the first 40 minutes of play. Emporia High (2-1) wraps up play in the Titan Classic at 9 a.m. Saturday against Derby.
