The Emporia High softball team picked up its first home sweep of the season on Thursday against Highland Park at Peter Pan Park.
Emporia High won the first game, 15-4, in five innings and completed the sweep with a 15-0 victory in three innings in the finale. In game one, Highland Park took a 1-0 lead, but Emporia High responded with six consecutive runs and never looked back. The Lady Spartans scored twice in the fourth and seven in the fifth. Aliva Barrett went the distance, allowing four runs on five hits and nine strikeouts and also going 3-for-4 at the plate. Mackayleigh Arrington also had three hits while Marley Sewell drove in three. In game two, Emporia High scored six in the first, eight in the second and one in the third. Barrett struck out five in three innings of no hit softball and also recorded two hits and two RBIs. Yzabel Ultreras also recorded a home run.
Emporia High (4-4) travels to Washburn Rural on Tuesday.
