The veto session doesn’t begin for over a week, but lawmakers are busy preparing for what’s to come.
Before Emporia’s Legislative Dialogue on Tuesday night, 17th District Senator Mike Argabright of Olpe says preparations for the veto session follows a fruitful session, but a session that still has a few things left unresolved, including a full property tax package.
Audio Player60th District Representative Mark Schreiber voted with the majority on many issues, but he periodically voted in opposition to fellow Republicans, notably on social issues — using gender-affirming care as an example.
Audio PlayerThe veto session is April 10-12 but may be extended, depending on the number of vetoes from Governor Laura Kelly. Already, the governor has vetoed two bills since the regular session ended this past Thursday:
*Senate Bill 5, which halts the use of federal funds to conduct elections and related activities unless lawmakers approve
*Senate Bill 14, designed to allow for “continuous budgets until amended, lapsed or eliminated” by lawmakers
