USD 252 Southern Lyon County has received a notable state grant through the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
USD 252 was announced as a recipient of nearly $11,000 through KDHE’s Waste Tire Product grant program. The grants are funded by money collected through what’s called the tire excise tax — a fee of 25 cents per tire.
Funds can go to cities, towns and schools, whether private or public. Money can be used to by items that use recycled tires like picnic tables or playground surfacing. For USD 252, Superintendent Ryan Muhlig says the grant money will help to fix and reseal existing playgrounds.
