The 25th annual North Lyon County Youth Association Fish Fry was a demonstration of many things: community, fellowship and most of all, resilience.
The annual fundraiser came just over a week after the city of Allen was impacted by a significant hail event that caused damage to many residences and the NLCYA building itself, damaging many of its historic windows. Shortly after the event, the question was asked if the fish fry would continue as scheduled, to which NLYCA Spokesperson Kylie DeDonder stated then and during Saturday’s event that nothing would have stopped them, noting resilience is a core value embedded in rural communities like Allen.
Audio PlayerFor the last 25 years, community members, both local and far beyond, have come to support the fish fry and this year was no exception as hundreds of hungry individuals filled the building to fill their stomachs with fresh fish, chicken, coleslaw and homemade desserts. One of the founders of the event, Christine Wallace, was on hand assisting with the fundraiser as she has since it began.
She spoke with KVOE News and stated that it still blows her away to this day to see just how much support they garner every year.
