The Emporia Recreation Commission is beginning the final phase of its search for its next director Monday night.
Fred Lowery will be the first candidate to interview for the role Monday evening inside of the Lee Beran Recreation Center. The evening will include a meet and greet with Lowery and the local community starting at 5:30 pm.
All residents are encouraged to attend the event. The formal interview will follow at 6 pm and last roughly 30 minutes.
Lowery is currently the Superintendent at Hilton Head Island Recreation in South Carolina. Lowery was announced as a finalist for the director position last month along with John Mark Woolums, a former facility program manager for Deerfield Park District in Illinois and current Interim Director and longtime Assistant Director for Operations Amanda Gutierrez.
Woolums and Gutierrez will interview next Tuesday, April 15 with the same schedule as Lowery. The chosen candidate will replace longtime director Tom McEvoy who retired in December after almost 40 years in local public recreation work.
