Emporia State baseball fell to Fort Hays State 8-1 at the Trusler Sports Complex in Emporia on Wednesday. With the win, the Tigers won the midweek MIAA series with one game left to play in Hays, Kan. The Tigers led 5-1 through five after scoring single runs in each of the second through fifth innings. Noah Steele delivered a single in the third to get the Hornets on the board. The Tigers blew the game open with four runs in the eighth inning. ESU went out in order in the ninth to end the game. Head coach Brad Hill said the team has to fight to be positive on a five-game losing streak.
The Hornets (16-17, 9-13 MIAA) will try to snap that skid hosting Washburn in the Turnpike Tussle beginning Friday. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. The entire series will be aired on the flagship station of the Hornet Sports Network Mix 104.9. Saturday’s Pack the Park event is free to the public and first pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
