The Regional Development Association of East Central Kansas board of directors could have a whole new structure by the time they adjourn their upcoming meeting Thursday.
As part of their regular meeting agenda, board members will review and possibly approve a new board structure that would increase the board’s membership from 7 to 11. The new structure was developed following roughly two months of conversations between members of the Emporia Economic Advancement Committee.
According to Emporia City Manager Trey Cocking, the new structure would include three voting members for both the City of Emporia and Lyon County, single voting members for the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce, Emporia Enterprises and Emporia Main Street and would add Flint Hills Technical College President Dr. Caron Daugherty and Emporia State University President Ken Hush as voting members.
The work towards a new board structure followed two significant events over the last year: the economic development study through Vision First and a letter to the RDA from the Emporia City Commission requesting immediate changes to the structure, signed and sent in December.
Additional items of business will include the monthly chairman’s report. The meeting will begin at 7:30 am inside the Trusler Business Center.
