If it seems like the entire QuikTrip construction zone is abuzz with activity simultaneously, that’s accurate.
Emporia City Engineer Jim Ubert says the area just west of the Flint Hills Technical College main campus and just north of the connection of Interstate 35 and the Kansas Turnpike has seen a lot of work since construction officially started in January.
Audio PlayerThe project follows years of conversations and planning to bring QuikTrip to Emporia, including work now underway to build a new roundabout just north of the current north roundabout connecting I-35 and the Turnpike to US Highway 50.

QuikTrip is the only business to occupy that address, but Ubert says Quik Trip typically brings other business near its developments and he says there has been interest expressed by several currently-unspecified businesses. He expect additional interest to surface once QuikTrip begins operating.
