A partnership between Healthier Lyon County and Lyon County Extension has led to almost $16,000 in grant funding to benefit almost 10 community groups.
Healthier Lyon County Community Food and Housing Coordinator and Lyon County Extension Family and Wellness Agent Melody Garcia worked together on the “Nourish Our Neighbors” mini-grant program through the Kansas Health Foundation’s Hunger-Free Kansas Initiative. This will benefit eight entities in Lyon County:
*Americus Community Pantry
*Corky’s Cupboard at Emporia State University
*CrossWinds Counseling and Wellness
*First United Methodist Church
*Hartford Community Food Pantry
*Newman Regional Health Community Care Team
*North Lyon County Food Pantry
*Salvation Army
Grants range from $2,500 to $30,000 and can be used to relieve hunger in a variety of ways, including refrigerators, freezers, vacuum sealers, reusable grocery bags and more.
