The Emporia High track and field teams finished second and third at Lansing on Friday.
On the girls side, the Lady Spartans had 135 points, 22 behind Leavenworth.Paige Newland led the way for the Lady Spartans with a pair of first place finishes and a third place finish. Newland won the long jump with a personal record 18-5.5 and the triple jump with a mark of 37-11. Newland finished third in the 100-meter hurdles (17.22). Jade Xu finished in a tie for second in the high jump (4-10). Reagan Thompson finished second in the 400m (1:06.35). Harley Smith finished second in the 200m (26.34). The 4x800m relay team of Emma Beatty, Bailee Van Sickle, Amelia Lowery, and Ivanna Orduno finished third (10:40.13). Beatty finished third in the 1,600m (5:38.65). Madison Evans finished third in the 3,200m (12:38.76). The 4x400m relay team of Smith, Thompson, Kaylee DeWitt, and Isabella Hinst finished third (4:21.63).
On the boys side, the Spartans recorded 104 points finishing behind Leavenworth and Seaman. Garrett LeBlanc won the triple jump with a mark of 46-2. Chance Duncan won the discus with a throw of 145-10 while also taking third in the shot put (45-1.50). RJ Tabares won the 110m hurdles in 15.05 while Ben Collins finished third (16.15). Tabares won the 300m hurdles in 40.87. Gideon Lowery won the 3,200m in 10:20.45 and finished third in the 1,600m (4:40.70).
Emporia High will send athletes to the KU Relays next Friday and Saturday at Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence.
