The Emporia State softball team won one and lost one in a doubleheader Friday at Northwest Missouri. ESU fell in game one of the doubleheader 4-3. ESU scored first on a groundout in the first inning and led until Northwest tied it in the fourth. ESU retook the lead in the sixth on a Mallory Moore single before Northwest plated three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Freshman Brynley Smith homered in the top of the seventh but it wasn’t enough. Jordan Harrison (12-6) took the loss lasting 5.1 innings and giving up eight hits and four earned runs.
In game two, starting pitcher Gracie Rabe tossed a complete game four-hit shutout in a 2-0 win over the Bearcats. ESU had 11 hits in the game but couldn’t string them together. Kennedy Topping went yard for a solo shot in the second to give ESU the lead and Ally Miller plated an insurance run in the seventh on a single. Rabe (9-9) struck out five in the win. ESU (26-18, 7-11 MIAA) returns to action Saturday at Missouri Western.
