The Emporia State women’s tennis team fell short in a tight 5-2 loss at Washburn Thursday. The Turnpike Tussle rivals split the first two matches of doubles before Washburn took #3 doubles 7-6 after a 7-5 tiebreak to win the first point of the dual. With the Lady Hornets down 2-0, Lilie Bizouerne came back to win at #4 singles in three sets to get ESU on the board. Washburn went up 3-1 but had trouble closing out the match with all three of the remaining singles matches going to three sets with Yulia Klimova winning her match in a third-set tiebreak, but ESU couldn’t get any other points on the board. ESU (7-8, 2-3 MIAA) returns to league play Thursday when they travel to Missouri Western.
