The Emporia State track & field teams wrapped up a busy four days on Saturday in Wichita. The weekend started for the Hornets & Lady Hornets at the Joe Meaker Classic Multi’s in Canyon, Texas. Jonah Remsberg finished third with 7,033 points becoming just the second man to go over the 7,000-point mark in ESU history in the event. Isabel Vikoler was the top Lady Hornet finisher with a personal-best 4,336 points to finish eighth.
Meanwhile in the Air Capital, the rest of the ESU team was at Cessna Stadium where Wichita State was hosting the KT Woodman Classic. The men’s javelin throwers started strong as Kole Manley finished second throwing 216 feet-11 inches. Brooks Lowe was fifth and Mitch Budke was eighth.
On Saturday, Max Neely won the men’s pole vault clearing 16 feet-4 3/4 inches for the third best mark in ESU history. Emmanuel Dukpe ran 47.44 in the men’s 400m dash and finished as the runner-up. Mia Manley had the top finish for the Emporia State women vaulting 11 feet-9 1/4 inches to finish sixth.
Emporia State heads to the Kansas Relays in Lawrence on Thursday at Rock Chalk Park.
El Dorado, Kan. native Destiny Masters set a new NCAA Division I high mark in the women’s heptathlon with 5,715 points at the Bryan Clay Multis hosted by Azusa Pacific. Wichita State’s Masters tied the best high jump in the American Athletic Conference this year on day one before throwing the second best javelin of the season.
