Downtown Emporia businesses may well see short-term water shutoffs the next few days.
A city contractor has started replacing water meters. Contract crews will work in one-block intervals starting in the 1100 block of Commercial, shutting down water service to downtown businesses long enough for the meters to be replaced. This phase of the project is reserved for Commercial Street businesses and could take two to three weeks to complete.
This work is part of a project taking place across town to replace meters for residential, commercial and industrial locations.
