Just a few days remain before Keep It a Safe Summer returns to the community calendar.
Keep It a Safe Summer also returns to the Lyon County Fairgrounds between 5-8 pm Thursday. On KVOE’s Talk of Emporia recently, organizer John Koelsch says organizers decided to not hold an event last year, instead using the past year to do some reconfiguring.
Audio PlayerThe event, geared towards students and families in Lyon and Chase counties, is also earlier than it has been. The event has been typically held on or near the last day of school, but the final day of classes has changed due to snow days earlier in the academic year and a number of participating organizations have already filled their registration spots before Keep It a Safe Summer had taken place.
Numerous organizations will be represented in and near the Anderson Building, and the Emporia Recreation Commission will have a fitness walk available. One thousand free hot dogs and 500 bike helmets will be part of the giveaways, along with door prizes and raffles to be announced late in the event. Residents need to enter on the north side of the Fairgrounds. Exit is eastbound-only using the north Fairgrounds entrance and northbound-only using the Industrial Road exit.
KVOE’s Rolling Radio Show will be on hand, with Tagan Trahoon broadcasting starting at 4:30 pm.
