A house in central Emporia suffered exterior damage after a fire Monday evening.
Emporia Fire responded to 405 Rural shortly before 7 pm, finding fire on the side of the house. The fire was put out quickly.
Early indications are some roofing materials on the ground and near the house caught fire, spreading to the siding. While there was notable damage to the siding, the fire apparently did not get into the house itself.
A cause is currently unclear.
Separately and later in the evening, Emporia Fire was dispatched to a small grass fire near the Kansas Highway 99 bridge at Soden’s Grove shortly before 11:30 pm. That fire was also extinguished relatively quickly. A damage report is pending and the cause is currently undetermined.
